Subphase 1 AM June 6th Commonwealth Beach Landings

Decided to swim all the DD tanks ashore. Reducing german fire power (by having units in front of WNs) is worth the risk. They drifted all over Juno including off map and thus eliminated. But barely at all on Gold.

DD drifted into ASL tournament and caught fire

Juno suffered getting through beach obstacles. Gold did not fair much better. Few step losses, other than DD, though.

End of Step 1, Landing

Allies took a beating, bunch more pins. Germans fire took out a couple steps in return. Including one from the 88 not shown below because I forgot until later. The 88 on Gold also took out a step.
Hey ho! Juno DD gunners did a smashing good job! Taking out three steps of WNs on the flanks.

Juno German and Allied fire (End of Step 3)

Gold German and Allied fire (End of Step 3)

Got a central breach on Juno. Which will allow AVREs and troops to pour through and assault Germans to the left and right. Good breaches on Gold as well. First troops onto dry soil! Getting no one in front of the strong, 2-step, WN at Jig White will cost later.

Juno Allied and German movement (End of Step 5)

Gold Allied and German movement (End of Step 5)

The beach obstacle demolition rolls were either good or bad, none midling. Which we don't like to see. Would rather consistent, predictable progress. Need these beaches cleared to start advancing into the Hinterland.  "Berlin by Christmas" and all that.

Juno Demo and Unpin (End of Step 8)

Gold Demo and Unpin (End of Step 8)

Overall; progress was made, with few casualties suffered. Juno: DD 9 steps, AVRE 1 step, CDO 1 step. Gold: DD 8 steps, CENT 2 steps, CDO 1 step, INF 1 step. Life of a duplex-drive crew was dangerous.

Subphase 2 AM June 6th Commonwealth Beach Landings

Onto subphase 2 of the . Lot less fire on Juno. Gold's crack 88 crew took out another DD step.  The Royal Navy smashed Juno: 4 shots took out 88, Inf and step of WN29. Three shots on Gold hit,... nothing. All the SPA on Gold is pinned and zero hits by tanks.

Tank stacking really limited lateral AVRE movement on Juno. So, I sent them through breach to assault (with infantry) and they rolled 0! Taking out all German defenders for no losses. Meanwhile on Gold beach, despite massive jumble of pinned armor at King Red assaults were made. King Red: hit 88 for no loss. King White: WN35 step and INF for AVRE step. Jig Green: took out WN36 for no loss.

Subphase 2 losses - Juno: INF 2 steps, M4 1 step, ART 1 step. Gold: DD 2 steps, AVRE 1 step, INF 2 steps, ENG 2 steps, ART 1 step.

Looking crowded - End of Step 1

Juno - End of Step 7

Gold - End of Step 8

Subphase 3 AM June 6th Commonwealth Beach Landings

End of Step 8, Beach Module done for Juno & Gold

Mopping up Juno; SPA took out sole last German infantry. AVREs breached pathways so others could get to Exit row (incase we didn't clear obstacles, wanted steps ready to move onto map). Did manage to get Royal Marines and Infantry Bn off, ready to move in AM GT. Rest of Canadians will pour onto map June 6th PM GT.

On Juno RN found its range, taking out WN33, WN37 and an Infantry. DD tank deftly rolled a 0 and took out WN35a. AVRE led assaults took out rest of defenders. Now to clear the last obstacles and get on with the invasion. Juno is easily cleared.

Gold remaining obstacles: King Red, two levels; King Green, one level; Jig White, two levels. For each, roll d10 divided by 2 (fru) and that is how many levels are blown. All get -1 drm for unpinned armor in subsector, AVRE's hidden in assault stack on Jig White.  ENG can also make blow one level on 6 or less (which I have prepositioned into each subsector). The Kings blow no problem. For Jig White, roll 9(-1drm)/2 round up only one level. One to go. It is up to ENG,... rolls a 6 and barely, hair's breath blows the final obstacle! The British will not lag behind O'Canada.

Final losses in Standard Unit steps:
Juno:
  • 2 steps of M4 Armor
  • 1 step of Infantry
  • 1 step of Commando
  • 1 Artillery unit is refitting until 7th AM GT
Gold:
  • 2 steps of M4 Armor
  • 2 steps of Infantry
  • 1 step of Commando
  • 1 Artillery unit eliminated

And with that the Commonwealth are let loose unto Normandy.
