GOSS Atlantic Wall - June 7th

Clouds made for a gloomy June 7th morning. Spirits were raised by the RAF roaring overhead [48 AP to GI on strategic map Sector A, a -3drm. Had desired effect based on the moans of German player during their StratMap movement.] and by the heavy presence of RN off-shore. [2BB, 1MN, 1CA, 2CL, 2DD!!!]

Logistics

Embarked nothing, got bonus 1 TP. Poor records kept; looks like only 4 AmP and 3FP. I Corps got and saved 2 Amp, 1 FP. ADV of 3 (2 +1 for only supporting two formations). I Corps, 3rd ID w/ 27Arm Bde, 51st ID all No Fuel. 6AB is supplied by DZ and auto Low Fuel.  III Corps spent everything it got and the 1 FP it had saved. ADV of 4 (2 +1 for two formations, +1 for 2xAmP).  50th ID w/ 8Arm Bde and 3rd Can Div w/ 2CArm Bde both Low Fuel. III Corps No Fuel. [There's so little assigned to Corps I see no reason to fuel them unless there is fuel to burn. Which will happen no time soon.]

Using Army/Corps Eng to improve roads [GOSS 17.7.0]. Really hard pressed by AW 15.4.0 Amphib Logistics rules; 6 MP Mech GenS paths.

AM Turn

No Fuel / low Fuel Values hurting maneuver.

51st and 3rd achieved smashing success knocking 21st Pz units off of two high points in Juno sector.

Relocated 3rd Canadian "Water Rats" to Gold and III Corps. Put Arm Bde in Exploit [this really didn't workout but was a learning experience on "how GOSS plays"]. Low fuel left artillery and tank destroyers where ever they were parked. Clearing operations N of Sevelles river. 2nd attempt to force crossing at Creully succeeds when PA marked Eng+Inf are able to advance after Canadian artillery encourages enemy retreat. [This blown bridge really cripples 3rd's ability to project GenS to where they want to be and continues to be a pain until repaired 08PM. The leg units are only able to exist via bridgehead GOSS 15.9.0 (which I now notice is only for Major Rivers...).]

50th Northumbrian, veterans of North Africa and Sicily, achieved triple success with its broad front advance towards Bayeux. Pushed (some enlisted grumbled "hung out to dry") the 151st Durham Light Infantry Brigade to interdict the Caen - Bayeux highway. Unfortunately, 12th SS got there first.

49th Infantry Division, "The Polar Bears" brigades wade ashore and move towards Bayeux.

Note for below image; the string of SS in around Caen was moved back. German had forgot 1/2 MA penalty moving from StratMap.

June 7 AM Gold-Juno-Sword pre- CW combat

U.S. player cleared Omaha and is moving off beach, barely. In effort to rub off it's raw status the 90th division is sent to mop "easy" WNs. Which it mostly fails at. I think by end of day only one Rgmt got to Green status.  GenS tether, including for airborne limits movement everywhere.

PM / Night Turns

The drive to clear Bayeux continues at a rapid clip. Night spent setting up to mog remaining defenders in the morning.

Successful end-of-day goals; take Vantage Points, advance on / take Bayeux, block SS from Bayeux or moving into US sector, 6AB not lose ground.  Less successful campaign goals; force Germans into war of attrition and, importantly, achieve better than step loss for step loss ratio.

German defensive barrages are brutal, claiming two tank steps and other steps, foiling CDO + paratroop attack. Another tank step and last of No. 48 (Royal Marine) Commando were lost driving 21st Pz elements from village. At least, RN cruisers blasted a step lost out of them first.

Royal Marine commandos moving off the Normandy beaches

The Germans make no attacks the entire day. I really expected those 12SS lead elements to punish the units I "threw" into their path. They consistently choose to retreat rather than take loss from Fire Support mission or combat. Annoyingly they seem to grok force conservation, space/time tradeoffs and attrition is probably bad for them. For now I am happy to gain ground.

They are digging a worrisome line of improved positions and entrenchments.

State before / after? June 7th Night game turn.

The Americans did various things. But none of them were "take Carentan".
